Artist Michael Gibbons has been received as a member of the National Arts Club in New York City. The “by invitation only” organization was founded in 1898 to be a gathering place for artists, patrons and audiences in all forms of the arts by Charles de Kay, literary and art critic for the New York Times.

Located in the 1840 “Tilden Mansion”, a National Historic Landmark on the south side of Gramercy Park, the club acquired this permanent home in 1906 providing elegant surroundings for a variety of gatherings, events, exhibitions and for the expanding permanent art collections. A dining room, bar and adjoining sitting rooms are the social hub of the facility.

Gibbons, among noted Oregon artists is also a member of Allied Artists of America, NYC; Laguna Plein Air Painters, Laguna Beach; and Oil Painters of America, Chicago. He and his wife Judith make their home base in Toledo, Oregon where they have a Signature Gallery and his studio.

Photo taken at the National Arts Club, NYC October 11, 2007 following the banquet and presentation of the Club’s Gold Medal Award to Olympia Dukakis for her production of the film “Away from her”, portraying a woman with Alzheimer’s disease and starring Julie Christie.

A solo exhibition is planned for October of 2009 at the Club in New York City. Check the website for your invitation.
