Vistas & Vineyards Artists & Founders ShowToledo artist Michael Gibbons, a founder of Vistas and Vineyards plein air painters, Corvallis, has been invited to show his work at their annual juried October art show at the LaSells Stewart Center, in the Giustina Gallery on the campus of Oregon State University. The Founders Show will be hung in the Murdock Gallery in the south concourse. Gibbons served as a Mentor Artist beginning in 1989 and continues to give an occasional art workshop for the group on location in a vineyard of choice in the Willamette Valley. The show will be open October 3 to 30 with a reception at the center for the artists on October 11 from 6:30 to 8:00pm and the public is cordially invited to the show. The show includes art in many two dimensional medium including oil, pastel, acrylic, pen and ink, graphite and colored pencil.
Michael Gibbons is showing "Tyee Farmland View", a 12"x 18" oil painting of the vineyard of that name south of Corvallis which he did while engaged with the group in teaching at his workshop. The painting shows a field of dry hay and an aspect of the surrounding hills with storm clouds on the way and as Michael recalls, the whole group ran from the rain with their painting equipment to shelter under the roof of a convenient shed at Tyee Vineyard. A QUIET VOICE IN A NOISY WORLD Like many of my dedicated artist friends, what I was to do with my life was apparent to me as far back as I can remember. It wasn’t until my early twenties that inquisitiveness and crisis collided, giving birth to opportunity. At that point I could strip enough of other people’s expectations away to see clearly the path I was born for. Now, in my seventh decade, I am comfortable with my reason to be and with my life, I am.”
