Don Prechtel Prints on displayDon Prechtel, artist working in historical genre and collector of antique western and military accoutrement, returned from his Creswell studio for a solo show of original oil paintings co-sponsored by the Museum and the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts, June 5-28 at the Newport Visual Art Center. In conjunction with the exhibit at the Visual Art Center, his print and reproduction work was on display each weekend in June at the Yaquina River Museum of Art in Toledo. The museum invited the public to coffee with the Artist on June 6 at the School House Museum. Prechtel was a Museum Artist in Residence recipient in March, 2009, while he painted in the area. He generously donated a number of prints to the museum which will remain on display and for sale benefitting art education programs. ©2007-2010 Gallery Michael Gibbons |
A QUIET VOICE IN A NOISY WORLD Like many of my dedicated artist friends, what I was to do with my life was apparent to me as far back as I can remember. It wasn’t until my early twenties that inquisitiveness and crisis collided, giving birth to opportunity. At that point I could strip enough of other people’s expectations away to see clearly the path I was born for. Now, in my seventh decade, I am comfortable with my reason to be and with my life, I am.”
