“Growing up in Western Oregon and with five generations of family history here, my treasure chest of memories is plenteous. When venturing into rural areas having such a connection opens many conversational doors with those encountered who have similar histories. It often times makes it possible to venture onto private properties heretofore inaccessible.”
“Painting is much more to me than clever use of materials to make a picture. Aside from learning the tools of the ‘craft’ there is the conscious, deliberate prayer to open oneself to the voices of, in my case, the very land I work with. These elicitations stir up impressions, memories, responses, all of which contribute to the imaging taking place at the end of my brush. Liken the paintings, if you will, to Felix Mendelssohn’s songs without words …I hope.”
